Google is Sorry That I May Be Sending Automatic Queries

How ironic that after writing this post about automatic queries, I should be the one to get penalized for supposedly sending automatic queries.

All I was doing was manually typing in some keyword searches, and bam! I got the screenshot you see below. The restriction lasted for about 20 minutes and now it works again, but not after seriously interrupting my work and making me wonder if it was going to take hours, days, or weeks to sort out. I guess the way I was typing in my searches must have coincided perfectly with some algorithm they have for detecting automatic queries. Well Google, I guess you have a ways to go.

Yeah, I get the same thing. I figured out that if I actually click a link from the search results every once in a while, they no longer take me as a bot.

I wonder if simply clearing your cache is enough to reset the counter. I also wonder if being logged into Google at the time would solve the problem. After all, it’s less likely for a bot to have a gmail address, I would think.

This happens at my office all the time. We have a few people that abuse the API. Anyhow they block the machines public IP. If you have multiple IP’s that you can rotate between this will fix the problem. If you cant rotate your machines public IP you can either wait it out or fill out this form, http://www.google.com/support/websearch/bin/request.py?contact_type=ban.

    Hope this helps :)

This is really interesting, luckily I have never experienced it personally but now that I know it can happen even when you are manually searching keywords I will be more careful to click on a link once and a while. I guess even Google makes a mistake now and then.

Even i get the that message many time that i am sending automatic queries after typing some manual searches in google. I used to delete cookies and than start the searching again. I am sure google will do something to sort it out.

I got this recently while reviewing a site’s indexed pages. I established a new IP to continue working but I doubt I am quite as fast as a bot, very frustrating.

I never thought that this would happen. Google is always strict so we have to follow its rule.

I think they have already updated this to giving you a captcha to complete if they suspect that you are sending automatic queries to their servers. In my office I get this many times and all I need to do is complete the captcha. After that, my search on Google is back to normal.
